Corporate Social Responsibility
Here at Optionis we continuously strive to make a positive impact on the industries and communities we operate in. We are committed to doing what’s right, rather than what’s easy. Here are some of the ways in which we seek to make a difference:
Raising industry standards Our Parasol and ClearSky Contractor Accounting divisions are known throughout the contractor services industry for their dedication to compliance. As a group we have a proud track record of leading the way when it comes to adapting to legislative changes, and helping to stamp out unethical and illicit practices. As a founding member of the Freelancer & Contractor Services Association (FCSA), we abide by an industry-leading code of ethics and undergo a rigorous, independent annual audit conducted by ‘Big Four’ accountancy firm EY. Results of these audits are submitted to HMRC, ensuring unprecedented levels of transparency and reinforcing our open-book approach in all dealings with the tax authority. Reducing our carbon footprint We understand that all companies have a duty to help protect the environment, which is why we constantly strive to minimise the impact we have on Mother Nature. For example, our teams are encouraged to use renewable or recyclable materials wherever possible, and use public transport or share cars when travelling on business. We reduce energy consumption – even by doing the little things like switching our PCs off at night – and are working towards becoming a ‘paperless office’ through the use of electronic communications. Payslips are emailed rather than posted, and several of our head-office departments work a four-day week – cutting the number of car journeys they make. Supporting good causes We are proud to support several fantastic charities including Brainwave, which helps children with disabilities and additional needs to achieve greater independence, Manchester & Cheshire Dogs’ Home and Claire House Children’s Hospice. Our employees are given a day off each year to carry out charity or volunteer work, and we regularly hold fundraising activities at our offices. Through our different brands we sponsor sporting organisations including rugby league sides Hull KR and Southampton Spitfires, and Greater Manchester-based Brooklands Hockey Club. Nurturing young talent Our 50-plus apprentices work towards recognised academic qualifications, undergo regular assessments and are expected to contribute to hitting their department’s overall targets. They are entitled to the same benefits and perks as all other employees, and the vast majority go on to secure a permanent position when their apprenticeship comes to an end. In November 2014 Optionis was praised by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg after being named as one of the top 100 employers of apprentices in England. Our inclusion in the list, compiled and published by vocational education specialist City & Guilds, came after we were highly commended in the Newcomer Employer of the Year SME category at the regional finals of the National Apprenticeship Awards.
